Copywriting

Copywriting is what turns a well-designed site into one that actually converts. At Laura Williams Pages, every word on your site has a job: clarify what you offer, answer the question a visitor is actually asking, and move them toward a next step. I write homepage copy, service pages, email sequences, and product descriptions that sound like you wrote them yourself, on your best day.

Good copy is a balance of two things that don't naturally sit together: the precision of copy built to convert, and a voice that still sounds like an actual person. I write with both in mind, so your site performs like a sales tool without reading like one.

What GEO copywriting actually means

SEO copywriting is written to help search engines like Google find and rank your page. GEO copywriting, or generative engine optimization, is written differently: in clear, direct, self-contained sections that AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity can accurately lift and cite when someone asks a question your content answers. The two aren't interchangeable. Copy written only for SEO often buries the actual answer inside marketing language an AI tool skips right past. I write for both from the start, so your copy performs in a Google search and holds up when an AI tool is deciding whether to quote you.

  • SEO Optimization Copy built to rank. I write with the keywords and structure search engines actually reward, without sacrificing readability for a human visitor.
  • GEO Optimization Copy built to get cited. I structure key information in clear, quotable sections so AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini can accurately represent and recommend your brand.
  • Gain Customer Trust Direct, transparent copy that answers the questions your visitors actually have, instead of talking around them.
  • Build a Reliable Brand A consistent voice and narrative across every page, so your site reads like one brand, not five different writers.

What does GEO copywriting actually involve?

Everybody's selling GEO right now. Almost nobody will tell you what they're actually doing differently, which makes me suspect that in a lot of cases the answer is nothing.

Here's mine.

Answers come before setup. A traditional paragraph builds: context, then reasoning, then the point. That's good writing for a reader who's already committed. It's terrible for a machine deciding which two sentences to quote. So the answer goes in the first sentence and the reasoning follows it. Same information, inverted, and it survives extraction.

Every passage has to stand alone. An AI tool lifts a chunk and drops it into an answer somewhere else, stripped of everything around it. Which means "as mentioned above" is dead weight, and so is any sentence that starts with "this" or "that" pointing back at a previous paragraph. If a passage can't be understood cold by someone who never saw the rest of the page, it can't be cited accurately. Sometimes it gets cited inaccurately instead, which is worse.

Names, not pronouns. Human readers track a subject across five sentences without effort. Extraction doesn't. When copy says "we've been doing this for two decades," and the passage gets lifted, nobody knows who "we" is. When it says "Laura Williams Pages has been building websites for twenty years," the fact travels intact.

Headings phrased the way people actually ask. Not "Our Process" but "How long does a custom website take to build?" That heading matches the shape of a real query, which gives a retrieval system an obvious reason to surface what sits under it. It's also just clearer for the human scanning the page, which is the part nobody mentions.

Specifics over adjectives. Two weeks beats fast. Twenty years beats experienced. Five countries beats international. An AI tool can repeat a number with confidence, and it will hedge or skip a superlative, because superlatives are what every competing page also says. This one is the hardest habit for most businesses to break, and it's the one that moves the needle most.

One term per concept, used consistently. Good prose style says vary your vocabulary. GEO says don't. If you call it a site audit on one page and a website review on the next and a diagnostic somewhere else, you've split one concept into three weaker ones. Pick the term your customers use and repeat it without apology.

Structured data behind the visible text. Everything above happens in the copy a person reads. Underneath it, schema markup states the same facts in a format machines parse without interpretation: what the service is, who provides it, what the answers to common questions are. The copy and the markup say the same thing in two different languages, and the redundancy is the point.

None of this is at the expense of the human reader. That's the part I want to be clear about, because "written for AI" sounds like it should read badly. It doesn't. Answer-first paragraphs are easier to skim. Concrete numbers are more persuasive than adjectives. Consistent terminology is less confusing. The structural discipline that makes copy citable happens to be the same discipline that makes it good.

Frequently Asked Questions

I write optimized homepage copy, service pages, about pages, email sequences, and product descriptions. I provide copy for anywhere your brand voice needs to show up and convert.

Do you write copy for existing sites or new builds?
