ABOUT
Design, words, strategy. Same person, start to finish.
Meet Laura Williams – Web Designer, Writer, and Podcast Producer
Twenty years building websites, and I still think the most useful thing on my résumé is the part that came before.
I managed businesses first. Several of them. Which means I’ve sat on the paying side of the table, writing a check to a designer and quietly wondering whether they understood my business or just my color palette. Usually the second one. Sales and marketing were my job before design was, so I tend to ask what a website is supposed to earn before I ask what it should look like.
Then I went back to school for graphic design. Websites followed. Copywriting followed those, mostly because clients kept asking who was going to write the words and I kept saying “I will.”
Since then I’ve worked for clients in Germany, Ukraine, Britain, Italy, and South America, all writing in English for English-speaking audiences. I specialize in websites for authors and publishing industry professionals, and I build sites and write copy for small and medium-sized businesses that need something that gets results. Different industries, with an identical problem underneath: the site has to be built to get the attention of one specific audience.
Podcasting I learned the slow way. Beginning with a live Hangout on Google+, The Writing Biz, I began to gain experience needed to help other podcasters. Over the years I’ve co-produced two others and I now produce for several clients. Recently I brought The Writing Biz back and the response has been tremendous.
Why does any of this matter to you?
Because most web designers are still building for one search engine, and I’ve been watching that assumption expire in real time.
I don’t sell you a site and disappear. I build the thing, write the words, structure it so both Google and the AI answer engines can actually read it, and I’m still there when you want to change something six months later. Four services, one person who knows how they connect.
Twenty years in, I’ve watched enough platforms rise and quietly die to be suspicious of anything I don’t control. Your website is the one asset that answers to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does your business experience help you as a web designer?
I ran businesses before I became a designer, so I ask what a site needs to earn before I ask what it should look like.
Which specific industries do you specialize in serving?
I build websites for authors, publishers, and small businesses. Every site is designed to capture its unique target audience.
Do you only build the site, or help with ongoing changes too?
I build and write your site, optimizing for search & AI, and stay available for ongoing updates long after launch.
How do I get started?
Request a free site audit if you already have a site and want to know what’s working. If you’re starting from scratch or need a full rebuild, book a free consultation instead, and we’ll talk through what you actually need.
